Modeling Writing Strategies
The Standards for Middle and High School Literacy Coaches, released last week, point to a number of characteristics that lead to a supportive writing environment at a school. No matter what level you teach, these standards can provide useful strategies to support student writers. For instance, Element 4.2.4 states, "Literacy coaches know and model strategies for supporting students with the writing process and the characteristics of different types of expository and imaginative writing" (22). These ReadWriteThink lessons and NCTE articles provide ways to model and explore such writing process strategies with students and colleagues:
